Police step up patrols around local Jewish institutions following fatal DC shooting

A Carlsbad Police cruiser Photo courtesy of the department Law enforcement agencies throughout San Diego County will increase patrols around Jewish institutions following a fatal antisemitic shooting in Washington DC on Wednesday night Two staff members of the Israeli Embassy in Washington a young couple on the verge of becoming engaged were fatally shot while leaving an event at the Capital Jewish Museum The suspect yelled Free free Palestine after he was arrested The attack was seen by officers in Israel and the U S as the latest in a growing wave of antisemitism The Jewish Federation of San Diego revealed there are no known local threats but the San Diego Police San Diego County Sheriff Carlsbad Police Chula Vista Police and Coronado Police are all increasing patrols We are deeply grateful to our local law enforcement agencies for their endorsement of our population the federation announced in an email message The federation urged residents to review all prevention threats antisemitic or hate-related incidents to the Secure Group Infrastructure
